The Jamaican Govt. has finally decided to remove the GCT, from not only Solar Panel, but also Lithium Ion Batteries as well. This had been brought to light in the form of a memo that was circulated within the departments and companies of the KW Kingston Warf coming from Department of Classification and Industry Liaison, signed by the Director Francine Dunbar.

Lithium-ion batteries imported for use in solar applications are thus free from payment of General Consumption Tax  in Jamaica as of June 13, 2022," the document stated in part. Persons importing
such as business across the country will be able to provide a lower rate in the final cost.

Paul Sloley of Solar Jamaican Company, Marslo International, said  in a recent interview with Solar Energy Systems Jamaica, that, "This will change Jamaica drastically for the future". A statement from the USAID website states that, "The importation of fossil fuels is the main source of Jamaica's energy needs. Over 87 percent (59 percent natural gas and 28 percent diesel) of the nation's electrical output is derived from imports. Jamaican power tariffs are more than twice as expensive as the world average due to the high cost of imported fuel." Which  present a sense of necessity for the countries development of renewable to offset the heavy dependence on fossil fuel energy which makes our utilities exceptional.

Now has never been a better time to invest in a solar home or work system to put a few extra bucks in your pocket. And with the cut of the tax previously applied, more homes and businesses have already been seen putting up their own independent power supply.
